The Northwood Hills Breeze gets published and mailed to residents about four times per year with tons of useful information including details about new regulations or initiatives from the city, helpful tips related to the particular season we’re in, a community calendar, a real estate report, contact information for Board members, a bulk trash collection schedule, and much more! Local businesses advertise in it as well, which helps to underwrite the cost of the publication and showcases service providers who cater to Northwood Hills. Read our most recent newsletter. Interested? Membership runs on a calendar year basis, and dues are $400 for the calendar year. If you join now, you’ll pay a pro-rated amount, but your membership can start immediately and run through all of 2025. NHHA Feedback Surveys for Members and Non-Members

The NHHA Board of Directors is interested in your feedback about our current programs, processes, and potential future improvements. We conducted a survey to help guide us in upcoming planning to lay the groundwork for an even better Northwood Hills neighborhood.

The survey focused on our existing NHHA programs and your satisfaction.

The 5-10 minute survey included:

1) A description of a current program offering, with examples of activities performed in that area. The list of examples will not be exhaustive, but will serve as a basis for forming an opinion. More details about our programs can be found on our website (northwoodhills.org), in prior Annual Reports, and in newsletters.

2) A request for your opinion about our performance in each existing program.

3) A request for your suggestions on what we should do differently or other services we should offer in each program.

4) An opportunity to rank our benefits in order of importance.

5) A free response section for you to provide general feedback regarding an area we didn’t ask about, or to make a suggestion for a program or activity we should offer.

The survey is now closed.

We really appreciate the time and effort of those residents who took part in helping shape our focus for 2021. We strive to earn your membership and be good stewards of your dues. General survey results will be shared during our Annual Meeting, held in the first quarter of next year.

National Good Neighbor Day 2020

For the past few years, NHHA has celebrated National Good Neighbor Day in various ways in late September. We have recognized residents who exemplified what it means to be a Good Neighbor; we hosted block parties to celebrate the sense of community we enjoy in our neighborhood; we supported our local Dallas Fire & Rescue First Responders; we donated toys to Medical City Children’s Hospital and we hosted a blood drive.

This year, the NHHA Board wants to focus on supporting healthcare workers, who are facing unprecedented demands and risk in the midst of the global pandemic. One local healthcare facility which has been hit especially hard since March is Parkland Hospital. They admitted their first COVID-19 patient on March 11 and opened the Tactical Care Unit (TCU) two weeks later. At the height of their patient load, they had converted five different wards to be COVID-specific. Medical professionals worked 12 hour shift after 12 hour shift, sometimes up to 6 shifts a week. Often they lived apart from immediate family and avoided spending time with other loved ones, out of caution. Thankfully, Parkland was recently able to close the TCU and start caring for patients in individual rooms. But, Dr. Matt Leveno, the TCU’s medical director, says the fight is far from over and even if talk of COVID on the news has subsided, Parkland staff have to remain diligent.

NHHA believes this would be an ideal time to show support of Parkland personnel. The Volunteer Services Coordinator at Parkland said a great way to show love and appreciation is by sending meals to staff. It will save them time and money and possibly be a meal they might’ve skipped otherwise. She also said it will be an encouraging gesture that a neighborhood would think of them in a special way during this difficult time.

Parkland has detailed food donation guidelines, and the easiest way to ensure they are adhered to and that our effect is maximized, is for NHHA to pool donated funds from residents and arrange a mass delivery on or around September 28, National Good Neighbor Day. We will handle coordination between the food establishment and Parkland, so all we need from you is monetary support!

If you’d like to contribute to our efforts, there are a few ways to participate:

1) If you have a Paypal account, send your donation of any amount to membership@northwoodhills.org.

2) If you’d like to make a donation by check or cash, please reach out to any Board Member to arrange its pick-up/drop-off. Don’t leave funds in anyone’s mailbox or under their mat. We also ask that you don’t mail the check/cash to our PO Box, in case there is a delay with delivery.

NHHA will pool the donated funds and arrange the individually wrapped meals to be delivered in bulk from a local food establishment to Parkland. The deadline for participation has already passed, but please reach out if you’d like to see if you can still contribute.

The residents of our wonderful neighborhood consistently show themselves to be generous, friendly, and caring. Thanks for epitomizing what it means to be a good neighbor. YOU are what makes Northwood Hills a great place to live!

Comprehensive July 4th Celebration Info for 2020

Now in it’s 27th year, the NHHA Independence Day Celebration is a signature event in Northwood Hills. COVID-19 has introduced new challenges this year, but with a little creativity, our neighborhood will still be able to celebrate our Independence safely. Instead of NHHA hosting a parade and festival at Northwood Hills Elementary, our residents will be the hosts and the festivities have the potential to span the entire neighborhood! Homes and yards will be decorated and residents will traverse our streets in golf carts, trucks, Jeeps, and antique and specialty cars, hopefully filled with costumed characters, decorated pets, and festive families.

We’d like to thank our corporate sponsors, who help ensure NHHA is able to organize events like this. We appreciate their support!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE: Decorate, Decorate, Decorate! Show your patriotism by placing decorations on your house, in your yard, in your trees, in your driveway, etc. Let NHHA know that you’ll be decorating your property so we can include your address on a map that we provide to residents. This is an important aspect, so we ensure participants know to drive by your house. If you or your kids or your pets want to dress up in costume, make sure you’re on the list and that you sit out front on July 4th between 9 and 10:30am so passersby can see you. Want to ensure the most visibility? Get your neighbors to decorate too! The more homes that participate on a street or cul de sac, the more likely people will drive down it.

We know you like showing off your Jeeps and antique cars and other vehicles, so don’t forget to decorate them as well! When you drive through the neighborhood checking out the festive houses, get the heads turning! Don’t be afraid to broadcast patriotic music to let us know you’re coming.

QUICK SUMMARY: No formal parade or festival this year. Because we can’t gather in groups, we have to spread out the fun. Your participation ensures our neighborhood still gets to celebrate, so get in the spirit and get on the list! Let us know by Wednesday, July 1st if you’ll be decorating your property (or yourselves out front!) and we’ll put you on the map that residents refer to when driving around NWH. The map will be made available by July 3rd in a MemberMail and on our website. If you definitely want to see all the fun cars driving through the neighborhood, then make sure you put up some decorations and tell us, so you can secure a spot on the map.

On Saturday, July 4th, between 9 and 10:30am, residents are encouraged to celebrate our Independence by sitting in their decorated yards and enjoying the festive vehicles that pass by, or by hopping in their vehicles and following the map to find decorated homes. To really get the full effect, plan to do both! The celebration lasts for an hour and a half, so you have time to enjoy all aspects.

THE LEGAL STUFF: NHHA is not leading a formal parade or blocking off streets or hosting a festival. As you drive through the neighborhood at your own pace and on your own desired route, you must follow all traffic rules. Please exercise caution and make sure all occupants are secured before moving. If you are watching vehicles pass by from your yard, please do not enter the roadway or distract the drivers. Try not to park on the street between 9 and 10:30am on July 4th so there is ample clearance and visibility. NHHA does not encourage forming groups during any aspect of the celebrations.
