Meandering Way Median (Update)
Posted May 25, 2008

At the end of Week 2 our Meandering Way median is nearly finished. New trees, shrubs, grasses and turf have been planted; the rocks and stones at the north end are installed, and the older trees have been lifted so passing large trucks won’t continue to damage them. Next week….some colorful flowers will be installed.

FYI, if you see the sprinklers running multiple times during the day, this is only for the very short term while we establish our new plantings (and is permitted by the water department).

Meandering Way Median (Update)
Posted May 17, 2008

At the end of Week 1, the Meandering Way median looks very different. The median has been re-graded to reduce run-off and a new retaining wall has been built. Irrigation goes in on Monday and then the fun part---new plants.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO USE CAUTION AS YOU TRAVEL ALONG MEANDERING WAY…CREWS NEED TO BLOCK OFF A LANE ON EITHER SIDE, BUT IT IS STILL A VERY NARROW WORKSPACE FOR THEM, AND WE ASK YOU TO SLOW DOWN AND BE PATIENT.

Please slow down and use caution when driving Meandering Way near Belt Line! Work has started on the Meandering Way entrance median. Teams from Yellow Rose Landscaping have removed the old plant material and crumbling stone wall, and are now re-grading the median. This will reduce water run-off and allow us to water more efficiently. Next, Texas Waterboys will install a new irrigation system. Check back often for new photos as we chronicle the progess!

Priority #1 for Spring 2001: take care of what's there

By Barbara McAlister

Before launching any new projects, my first duty as Chairperson for Beautification was getting acquainted with installations already in place. I discovered that the long, dry summer -- compounded by sprinkler system problems -- had taken its toll. We have done much-needed thinning, trimming and cleaning up of plantings on Meadowcreek east and west and Meandering Way from Belt Line to Cliffbrook. We replaced 73 plants and a great deal of Asian jasmine ground cover that was totally wiped out.

In addition, we made a substantial contribution to the group headed by Bruce Jamieson that maintains the beautiful entrance at Elmridge and Hillcrest.

More recently we launched a total clean-up of medians on Spring Valley between Hillcrest and Coit Road. These had become quite unsightly. All crape myrtles have been trimmed, and three large dead magnolias removed along with eight clumps of shabby, trash-littered shrubs.

Presently we're planning at least two new Northwood Hills entrance markers at Hillcrest-Spring Valley and Belt Line at Meandering Way. They will be similar in design to those on Meadowcreek.

Long-term, we visualize trees in our medians and more Northwood Hills markers at key neighborhood entrances. All of this depends on you and the new members we can generate. Your ideas, comments, and suggestions are invited and will be greatly appreciated.

Specifically, it would be a great help if you would keep an eye out for problems like broken sprinkler heads or dying plants in the currently landscaped areas, and call us to report such things. Thanks -- and have a beautiful spring!
