LATE BREAKING NEWS ABOUT THE NEW SHOPPING CENTER AT COIT & SPRING VALLEYWhat's going on and when can I shop at the new Albertsons? The truth is, we really don't know. What we do know is the original developer has backed off on the deal and has let his option expire. The property is back on the market. You've no doubt seen the big FOR SALE sign on Coit Rd. The good news is that the site has been approved for Albertsons to operate a supermarket. Since that has been accomplished, the management of Albertsons would like to see the deal completed. A source close to the transaction tells us that a new developer is now involved, and is negotiating with Albertsons and the other parties presently in the location. Albertsons has worked very well with the homeowners associations in shaping a project that is acceptable, and we hope they can make it work. We will keep you informed as we learn more. -- Fred Williams INSIDE THIS ISSUE read about the NHHA Web site, fall drive for new members, real estate update, and future fun events for golfers and fans of big band music. PRESIDENT'S MESSAGEBy Fred WilliamsThe Fourth of July Parade has come and gone so it really must be summer. And speaking of the parade, a big thank you goes to Mark and Lynn Carlton. We had a bigger event this year with more for the kids to do, and Mark and Lynn worked hard to pull it off. See the pictures inside. Ross Sanders, our special events chairman, has more activities planned, so mark your calendar for the Fall Festival of Fun on Saturday, September 23, and the annual NHHA Golf Tournament Monday, September 25. Golf chairman Larry Baker needs to know how many to plan for, so golfers please use the entry form in this issue. The REALLY big event occurs this fall. Our NHHA Membership Drive kicks off October 1 and we hope to wrap it up by the 15th. What makes it a big event is that we need a big number of you members to volunteer your help. Cris Murrey, our membership chairperson, has some great ideas for organizing the drive, but it's going to take people power to make it work. Specifically, we need five area captains and about 50 block captains to each contact fifteen or more homes. If you want to help, use the volunteer form inside, or leave your name, phone number and address on Cris Murrey's voice mail by calling 972-381-6033. She'll get back to you with details. NHHA now has 526 members -- less than half the total number of homes in our neighborhood. If we could add 100 new members we could do so much more. Like increasing our daytime police patrol by two more shifts per week -- crime statistics clearly point out that daytime is where we need more patrol presence -- and like spending more on beautification of entrances and medians. Please volunteer to help. You and your family will reap the benefits -- and you'll feel great about helping your community. |

www.northwoodhills.org NORTHWOOD HILLS SAYS "HELLO WORLD!" VIA INTERNET WEB SITEBy Gene Saunders, WebmasterIt's been nearly eighteen months since I was asked to help with the Northwood Hills Web site, and I'd like to thank all of you who have been so encouraging. Your suggestions and comments have helped it evolve into a truly valuable resource. For those of you who haven't visited recently -- well, you're missing a LOT! We now have about 75 pages online. With the speed of the Internet (and my digicam) we can add photos and information in only minutes. It's truly remarkable. Heck, you can even check up on the neighborhood while you're on vacation anywhere in the world. If you can get to a Web browser, you can read about things as diverse as the parking lot expansion at NH Elementary, and why all those trailers were muddying up Hillcrest Park. There's a "Helpful Phone Numbers" page that doubles as "Helpful Web Sites." Whether you just moved here or have been here forty years, this page is a keeper. We also help you report or find a lost pet; learn details of the Dallas recycling program; check the Fretz Park Rec Center activities calendar; and even a Scam Watch page. About the only thing you won't find is crime info -- that's reserved for our E-mail Alerts which you can request via our Web site. All pages are dated to tell you how fresh the info is.
Perhaps the best way to see all that's available online is to click the A-Z button ( |

The average sales price for the first half of the year was $397,718. The average price per square foot was $104.34, and average number of days on the market 52. These cumulative numbers are an improvement over those reported during the first quarter of the year. Details follow.

Saturday, September 23 FALL FESTIVAL OF FUN AT FRETZ -- FREE FOR FAMILY & FRIENDS!By Ross SandersThe second annual NHHA Fall Festival promises to be a great afternoon of fun for the whole family. It begins at 5:00 pm on Saturday, September 23, south side of the swimming pool at Fretz Park, with special entertainment for the children. Bring your blankets, chairs, and picnic dinners and join the fun. More than 250 Northwood Hills friends and neighbors attended last year's festival. This year, the event is co-chaired by Susan Hanchey and Melissa Liebowitz. Once again, the special treat of the evening will be a performance by the Town North Concert Band. Their program will include selections made popular by the big dance bands of the 1940's and beyond. The band will play from 6 to 7pm. Don't miss it! |
