Dallas Police Officers have rendered many time-honored services to the citizens of Dallas. The department continually strives to seek improvement upon existing police services. To better serve the growing senior citizen population of Dallas, a unique training and education program was created to teach officers in identifying and providing assistance in meeting the specific needs of senior citizens. Field officers and detectives are in the process of being trained on recognizing the special needs of senior citizens from the initial patrol contact as well as throughout the investigative follow-up. Program Goals / Enhance customer service to elderly citizens / Heighten sensitivity of detectives toward the senior population / Develop a referral system to aid elderly complainants in a timely manner Senior Citizen Liaison Officer The SCLO is a senior corporal assigned to the ICP-Coordination Unit who reviews all complaints involving senior citizens ages 65 and over. The SCLO will review these reports and identify special needs that the complainant may have. The SCLO officer will then contact patrol ICP Officers or the appropriate social services agency to schedule a visit with the senior complainant to determine if further social services are necessary. Also, the SCLO officer conducts educational programs for seniors that provides valuable information on crime prevention and personal safety awareness.
