NHHA Feedback Surveys for Members and Non-Members

The NHHA Board of Directors is interested in your feedback about our current programs, processes, and potential future improvements. We conducted a survey to help guide us in upcoming planning to lay the groundwork for an even better Northwood Hills neighborhood.   The survey focused on our existing NHHA programs and your satisfaction.    The 5-10 minute survey included: 1)    A description of a current program offering, with examples of activities performed in that area. The list of examples will not be exhaustive, but will serve as a basis for forming an opinion. More details about our programs can be found on our website (northwoodhills.org), in prior Annual Reports, and in newsletters. 2)    A request for your opinion about our performance in each existing program. 3)    A request for your suggestions on what we should do differently or other services we should offer in each program. 4)   An opportunity to rank our benefits in order of importance. 5)    A free response section for you to provide general feedback regarding an area we didn’t ask about, or to make a suggestion for a program or activity we should offer.   The survey is now closed.   We really appreciate the time and effort of those [...]

National Good Neighbor Day 2020

For the past few years, NHHA has celebrated National Good Neighbor Day in various ways in late September. We have recognized residents who exemplified what it means to be a Good Neighbor; we hosted block parties to celebrate the sense of community we enjoy in our neighborhood; we supported our local Dallas Fire & Rescue First Responders; we donated toys to Medical City Children's Hospital and we hosted a blood drive.   This year, the NHHA Board wants to focus on supporting healthcare workers, who are facing unprecedented demands and risk in the midst of the global pandemic. One local healthcare facility which has been hit especially hard since March is Parkland Hospital. They admitted their first COVID-19 patient on March 11 and opened the Tactical Care Unit (TCU) two weeks later. At the height of their patient load, they had converted five different wards to be COVID-specific. Medical professionals worked 12 hour shift after 12 hour shift, sometimes up to 6 shifts a week. Often they lived apart from immediate family and avoided spending time with other loved ones, out of caution. Thankfully, Parkland was recently able to close the TCU and start caring for patients in individual rooms. [...]

Comprehensive July 4th Celebration Info for 2020

UPDATED AT 4:30PM JULY 3RD MAP/LIST OF PARTICIPANTS CAN BE FOUND HERE: Map of Houses Now in it's 27th year, the NHHA Independence Day Celebration is a signature event in Northwood Hills. COVID-19 has introduced new challenges this year, but with a little creativity, our neighborhood will still be able to celebrate our Independence safely. Instead of NHHA hosting a parade and festival at Northwood Hills Elementary, our residents will be the hosts and the festivities have the potential to span the entire neighborhood! Homes and yards will be decorated and residents will traverse our streets in golf carts, trucks, Jeeps, and antique and specialty cars, hopefully filled with costumed characters, decorated pets, and festive families. We'd like to thank our corporate sponsors, who help ensure NHHA is able to organize events like this. We appreciate their support! Rach Potter, Housed Real Estate Ready Roofing & Renovation Mitra Shamsa, The Shamsa Group Melinda Spence, Compass Real Estate Sunnyland Furniture Judy Switzer & Associates Traver Construction HOW TO PARTICIPATE: Decorate, Decorate, Decorate! Show your patriotism by placing decorations on your house, in your yard, in your trees, in your driveway, etc. Let NHHA know that you'll be decorating your property so we can [...]

Neighborhood Scavenger Hunt

Need an activity? We've put together a scavenger hunt inside the neighborhood. Print the list or save it to your phone and head out on a walk or drive to see if you can spot all the items. While you're at it, snap a photo of you or your kids on your excursion, or while doing anything else outside to keep yourselves occupied during this unusual time, and submit them to president@northwoodhills.org. We'd love to include your photos in an upcoming newsletter article about what our residents did to keep themselves occupied, happy, and engaged during the shelter in place orders.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

The NHHA Board of Directors, along with dedicated volunteers, want to ensure our neighbors are safe and that you have what you need during the COVID-19 pandemic. We don't want any of our residents to forego essential items because they don't feel they can safely obtain them due to personally being immuno-compromised or having an at-risk household member. If you are unable to obtain necessary items during this time because of health reasons, please review the following list and contact your Board representative with your needs:   Urgent Food Needs Paper Towels Toilet Paper Bottled Water Toiletries Medicine Pick-Up Other Essential Items   We will do our best to accommodate you. We are also calling and dropping off letters to potentially at-risk residents who may not see our online posts. If you know of any of your neighbors in need, please forward their name and address to us so we can reach out.   We know this is a difficult time for many of us, so let's work together to get through it.   On behalf of the NHHA Board of Directors,   Janet Marcum President

Important Security Patrol Improvements

One of the main benefits provided by Northwood Hills Homeowners Association is the armed security officers who patrol the neighborhood to provide security, improve safety, perform out of town home checks, and deter criminal activity. Our previous provider, United American Security, has now joined GardaWorld Security Services. GardaWorld is the largest privately-owned security services and business solutions company in the world. You may have noticed the new patrol cars over the past month, but that’s not the only change. The NHHA Board approved an increase in weekly patrol hours to give our neighborhood coverage for 2 shifts a day, 7 days a week, for a total of 112 hours (from the previous 88). We now have 3 full-time officers on patrol throughout the week. In addition, officers will carry tablets in their cars, so they have quicker access to email and member contact information. If you’re a current member, take note of the updated Out of Town Home Check form on the Security page of our website and make sure to use that going forward. The email address for form submission has changed, but the security patrol phone number remains the same.  If you have any questions or concerns, don’t [...]

Discount at Local Tree Farms

There’s a popular Chinese proverb that says, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” Northwood Hills’ trees took some big hits this year, which is devastating for many reasons including visual appeal, shade, and property value, just to name a few. NHHA member Amy Schellhorn reached out to WW Tree Farms to secure a 20% discount for those homeowners looking to replace trees that were destroyed. Since fall and winter are a great time to plant trees, and NWH residents can get 20% off, this could be your chance to fill a void left by our recent storms. Some of the trees recommended are Live Oaks, Bur Oaks, Red Oaks, Cedar Elms, Chinese Pistache, Bald Cypress and Maples. To learn more about types, sizes, and pricing, visit the Tree Farm at 11641 Newberry, Dallas, TX 75229 or call William Young at (214) 226-2076. They have many more trees available than the ones in stock and can work with you to find the right tree for your property. All of WW Tree Farm prices include delivery, planting, and a one year warranty. Possible additional costs include a daily rental fee of [...]
